Drive-through generosity, pay it forward and SOLO Taxonomy.

in Resources, SOLO Taxonomy

Macdonalds_rs One of the things I enjoy about the day job is the opportunity to work with different teachers in many different learning places and spaces across New Zealand.

I am always turning up someplace new, working with teachers on classroom based approaches to SOLO Taxonomy and then leaving again.

It is not unlike the process of going through a McDonald’s drive-through where goods and services are exchanged but you don’t get to stick around.

In each interaction I learn something about teaching and learning, and the people who make it happen. In each interaction I learn something about myself.

Many of the teachers I work with keep me updated on their students’ use of SOLO Taxonomy – they send me emails asking for feed-back and suggestions – and more significantly they offer “pay it forward” SOLO classroom resources they have used with their students and are happy to share with others.

The exchanges and updates keep me busy long into the night and across weekends and holidays but they are what make the job worthwhile.

I think of these “pay it forward” SOLO related classroom resources as the equivalent of the “Ma’am, Your Burger Has Been Paid For” moments happening in takeaway drive-through outlets in the US and Canada.

Whether it happens in a McDonalds drive-through or during an email exchange – paying it forward is citizenship in action –

Here is an example of a SOLO maths resource shared by Greg Patel at Flanshaw Rd School in Auckland, New Zealand.
