SOLO Reflective Question Self Assessment Rubrics

Leonard: So, Sheldon. How ya doing?

Sheldon: That's how you start a psychotherapy session. How am I doing? I was promised a riverboat journey into the jungles of my subconscious. Instead I get the same question I hear from the lady who slices my baloney at Ralph's.

Choose one of the following reflective questions and co-construct a self-assessment rubric with SOLO differentiated success criteria.

Where am I going? How am going there? Where to next?

Questions for another.

What were you trying to do in this lesson? What is the learning intention/task? What worked in this lesson? How do you know? What would you do the same if you could re-teach the lesson? Why? What would you change if you could re-teach the lesson? Why? What surprised you in this lesson? Why? What is the challenge you need help with? Is there more than one? What are your options for dealing with this challenge? What might be causing this challenge? What information do you need to make an informed decision about this challenge?

Questions for me.

What have I done to establish a positive classroom culture? Do my students feel at home in the classroom/learning community? Do my students experience achievement success in my classroom? Are the tasks I set not too easy or too difficult? Do my students experience confidence in my classroom? Am I well organised and prepared in my classroom? Do my students experience interest in my classroom? Do my students get frequent, timely, positive and encouraging feedback? Do I vary the approaches I use in my classroom?

Why is this important?

Having a mind frame that seeks feedback - is among the most powerful influences on student achievement that we know. Mind frame 43.In this school, the teachers and school leaders: believe that their fundamental task is to evaluate the effect of their teaching on students' learning and achievement;(Hattie 2012:188)
