Metrics for the spread of a powerful idea (updated)

in Books, Dafolo, John Biggs, SOLO Taxonomy

DanishAnthologyUnboxedIMG_1042_rsI came home after working in Christchurch with the Ōtākaro Cluster to find a package on my desk. It contained my author copies of Læringsmål og taksonomiske redskaber.

The Danish contribution written by Bodil Nielsen, Annette Hildebrand Jensen, Lene Skovbo Heckmann , Victoria Grønning Iverssøn and Kirsten Frøhlich Well , with other chapters by James Nottingham, Geoff Petty, Pam Hook, Robert J. Marzano , Trine Gustafson and Henning Fjørtoft .

Seeing my chapter on the classroom based use of SOLO Taxonomy in Danish made me pause – it was a moment worth noting.

The Danish book (and the ER SOLO Action Research book collaboration with two UK teachers Simon Wall and Rob Manger) mark the spread of a simple yet powerful idea with a metric that differs from simply monitoring numbers of Twitter followers on @arti_choke and @globalsolo.

It represents a deeper level of influence and one that all practitioners sharing SOLO with their students will be dead chuffed about.

I hope John enjoys his copy.

News Update – June 2016: Just released a great review of the book.

This is a nice quote: “Denne præsentation af taksonomier i undervisningen indeholder en god, nuanceret oversigt over muligheder og begrænsninger ved anvendelsen af dem.”

Something like: ” This presentation of taxonomies in education contains a good, balanced overview of possibilities and limitations of their use.”

‘A relevant, well written and topical book filled with great articles of Danish and foreign experts in learning and teaching. A really good book for contemplation and discussion for teachers , managers, trainees , consultants , educators and others interested in the topic. [ …] Here hits contents straight into the challenge facing schools is in now. A detailed table of contents , makes the book a good reference book , as it can be read from start to finish . Each chapter is divided into manageable sections , and the language used is readily accessible. It presents a lot of answers to how. Should acquired. ‘ – Lektørudtalelsen from the Danish Library Center
