The SOLO “zoom out” effect means that when teachers design learning experiences for increasing cognitive complexity, there is no upper limit or boundary.
From a student’s perspective, there is no “sprint to the finish line” –there is always another step to increase the complexity of their learning outcome. When students realise that a SOLO-level response in one developmental stage or task can become a response at a different level of outcome for a task at a higher level they grow a Buzz Lightyear (Toy Story) mindset about learning – “to infinity and beyond!”
